Supported Housing

Supported Housing Program for Individuals and Families

Housing Options provides supported housing for individuals and families in:  Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Monroe and Niagara Counties.  The foundation of the program is based on choice and community integration.  To be eligible for the program you must be 18 years or older, have a mental health issue and meet the income requirements.  Most referrals must come through the counties' single point of access (SPOA) committee who determine the level of housing the person needs and/or wants.  We have many different types of supported housing: long term stay (individuals must be have stayed in a psychiatric facility for at least 6 months); HUD homeless housing (individuals must meet HUD’s definition of homelessness), Reinvestment (individuals who have multiply issues and have many different needs), and OMH supported housing.  Regardless of the type of housing an individual is eligible for, our foundation of providing safe, affordable housing is the same:  when accepted, a peer housing specialist will work with the individual/family in picking out an apartment, (the individual can look at three apartments in the community of their choice).  In all programs the individual's signs the lease.  The program helps with security deposits, start-up furniture and can provide a stipend that pays up to 70% of the individuals rent depending on the income the individual or family is making.  The program also provides peer support which will assist the individuals with the following:

  • Choice
  • Empowerment
  • Wellness and Recovery options
  • Community Integration
  • Working with the landlords
  • Financial stability
